30th August 2007
– Bursledon, Hampshire
Sailing legend Sir Robin
Knox-Johnston officially opened Aladdin’s
Cave new specialist clothing store in Bursledon
yesterday evening.
The new store will be able
to offer customers a more specialist technical and
varied area of yacht clothing service and will also
allow staff to develop specialist expertise and
therefore give a better service to our customers.
The new store will be stocked with the following
brands; Henri Lloyd, Gill, Musto (non-technical),
Weird Fish, Harken, Sebago and Dubarry, with other
leisure brands from France, Germany and Italy adding
to the mix from next spring.
Aladdins Cave was originally
a boatyard business started by Alywn Foulkes in
1935. The chandlery started in the late 60’s
and acquired it name in the late 70’s, when
several customers where heard to say “It’s
like Aladdins Cave in here” and so the name
was born.
In 1985, Aladdins Cave took over the chandlery at
Deacons Boatyard and also became a limited company.
Since then, the business has thrived and over the
years have opened several more chandlery shops on
the South Coast. Aladdins Cave is now based on the
Hamble River with five shops, a rigging shop and
a thriving Web Site.
